Looks like you might have the lake to yourself, Mike.

Hopefully, you will be getting something in the mail toward the end of next week from me.

Been fishing the local lake here every evening and 'eyes are not quite spawning yet, but close. Been getting 2-3 every other evening or so. water temps keep bouncing around.

You been doing any good locally there? - Jeff

Jeff,
I have only made it out twice over the last week. Fished Lake Sinai both times. We did well one night, had 20 fish over 15" 5 or so were over 20" including a 8 pounder. grin.gif Fished the same same area the next day and only picked up 4 we could have kept, 2 were nice 21" females.

Heading to Red Wing over the weekend so that will be interesting with the tough bite going on there.

I can't believe no one from this forum will be on Bigstone. For being a border waters opener, it is usually not very crouded. It's a big lake so there is plenty of room for everyone!

You will find much more chat about about big stone opener on the Minn. sections of this site..... seems to draw more interest from Minn.

Good luck at Red Wing. I hear the Miss. has been very high but has started dropping in NE Iowa the last day or so. The cold front coming won't help but those river fish seem a little less affected by fronts.

I hope you appreciate the quality of your local fishing, lol. Two evenings like you described would be considered catches of a lifetime down here, lol. - JJJJ

Mike, the weather report for this weekend is rain sat. afternoon and sunday. You really should call when you plan these trips over here. Been waiting for a lonely boat to go. All I`ve been doing is shining those bait casters and counting the day`s. Making a trip out to central California for a week on the minnesota opener. I`ve got some nice ponds lined up and hope they work out. Flip

Flip,
Your welcome anytime, I'll be back again this weekend. We will be prefishing for a tourney so it will be more scouting and less fishing. Shoot me an e-mail and we'll see if we can't work something out. It sounds like you need to get in a boat. We won't be fishing for green carp though! grin.gif

Mike
I dont think Flip can fish For a real fish. He will be tossing topwater at those eyes. What the heck take him along he may come up with a new technique for those river eyes. I am headin to Millacs this weekend for some early season slabs. I have a good spot picked out if the ice is off.

Don`t laugh I`ve caught them bottom feeders on top water. Mike, if you have someone going already I think I will hit that crappie spot you hooked me up with last year. I heard they are moving up this week. We`ll do it some other time and thanks for the invite. You`ll get me one of these times. Good luck pre fishing. A little hint, those eyes like half ounce pig and jigs. Flip

    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
    • The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there.  About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.
    • It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway.  Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work.  You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water.  When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.
    • We went to the flats too. I dipped a tire on the rental car onto it just to say I’ve been there, but it was still pretty soft from winter melt. After seeing some moron in a BMW suv get dragged out of the muck I had no intention of repeating his stupidity.
    • I've been out on the flats. It's like being on a different planet
    • I’ve only seen that from the air.
