Question about Oregon 450 by Garmin

I need to replace an older H2o and was looking at the Oregon 450.

I was wondering if this unit is a solid reliable piece of equipment?

Is it hard on batteries (short run time)?

Any information will help in my decision.

I have a 550t; it has thusfar been very reliable. Very fast sattellite acquisition and battery life measured in days instead of hours...(realistically about 30 hours per set if I remember risgt, but I don't use it contunually throughout the day).

On any of the Garmin's the Energizer Ultimate Lithiums will give you some of the best battery life out there, they are a little more money but worth it. I run a Colorado 300 ( non touchscreen version of the Oregon ) and I can get a few days of use also like Sorenson refers to.

I get about 24hours on my Oregon 450. I end up looking at it a lot for fishing, so a lot of that time is backlit as well.

It a good unit. I haven't had any problems...besides dropping the first on in the lake I now have mine on a rope which is attached to me at all times.
