Three recent trips out on Lake Erie has really kicked my ice fishing cravings up a notch! Three trips and 293 in the box so far for my neighbor and I.

Last trip was the least of the three times out with 93 on CatchCounter cooler, but we picked up a bonus walleye to go with.

My niece and the walleye before getting cleaned, that makes 156 walleye so far this year.

Most of the perch have come with the standard perch/crappie rig, but some of the biggins have come with traditional ice spoons and homemade droppers.

Nice....looovvvve to go perchin!!! Am pretty jealous there Charlie as do not have much access to that type of perch water anywhere near me. So up there have they started to saunter up into the bays yet or still holding out deeper? Actually, what do they do on the big lake during the winter?

If you need to scratch the ice itch, head on down South this weekend and I'll hook you up!?!? ......yep, a little open water "ice" fishing......here are some pics from July smile

It will be straight out ice gear.

The fish will be stacked.

Hardly even need to tip the lure.

And the best part is that the camera temp is going to read about 20 degrees cooler....no not cool enough...but its coming! Good luck to all on the wait!!!!

I love the concept to that EARLY season action, great pics! Right now on Erie, and from what a couple of buds have told me, up on Saginaw Bay too, you can find the perch anywhere from 15 to 26+ fow. Up on Saginaw Bay, the perch come in extremely shallow during the winter bite, 3 to 8 fow up there. Down here on Erie I like to fish the cricks and small back bays for them. On Lake St. Clair, the bite is on the many canals coming off the lake

I crave ice all year long but last weekend it got to be too much as well. A buddy and I skipped out of opening morning of bow season here in Vermont to go pound on some crappie. We brought the ice gear to remember what its like. Check out this video!
