Open water Northern

Is anyone out fishing open water for Northerns around the Desmet, Lake Thompson area?? If so, would a quick strike rig with dead smelt in shallow water do the trick?? Haven't pursued Northers much this time of year, but might try a little more now.

I'm with you N_Foster. I have'nt Chased pike In the Spring time a whole lot. Since getting infected with cabin fever I have Put this on top of my priority list.
I have heard a few "unreliable reports" of walleyes being caught by shore fisherman in the area, but I hav'nt been able to break away at all this week to do any fishing. This weekend definatly has fishing plans so hopefully I somthing to report.

tried 81 ponds for just a bit yesterday with not luck. There is still quite a bit of ice but there were areas to cast. any info on early season walleye and northern in this area would be very helpful. Is preston good for early season pike

From my understanding Lake Preston has winter killed again this year. There are always a few fish that make it, but as for a fishable population, probably not.
