Just wondering if anyone is using a Buzz Stick this winter; if so how is it working? Can't get over the big marketing push this made this year.

Thanks

As with a lot of the products in the fishing world - most are designed to catch fisherman instead of fish. I thought it seemed like a great idea (as I hate to set my "refreshment" down to jig a rod) when I first saw it. I tried a demo at the store hanging it down in the air with a twister tail on the end and it looked great! I then stuck it in the bait tank when the clerk wasn't looking, the kind with the clear windows on the side, and tried it again - virtually no movement at all and that was only in 12" of water - imagine how 10' or more of water would deaden any motion. I think it's one of those "seemed like a good idea at the time..." kind of things. Keep those wrists loosened up and jig away...

That was my thought too, that the resistance of the water would be too much to allow the vibration to travel down the line to the bait, even though the rod tip may still be moving. However, that was just my thought.

For as many as were on the shelves in the stores, I have yet to talk to anyone who has actually fished with one.

Poor test marketing, failed from the start. I saw the "buzz stick" and instantly knew it was a gimmic. I had to talk many a person outta buying one of those worthless jigging sticks.

I have to disagree with you folks and credit this combo with some outstanding catches this year. You have to remember that fish will feed on a reaction basis sometimes, through vibrations in regards to their lateral line. A fish has an "inner ear" and an "outer ear". From distances greater than 6 feet, small (very small) vibrations can pull in fish with such little of ease.
Now, I understand that these rods were marketed heavy and many individuals purchased these rods with the idea that his or her catch rate would greatly increase. WITHOUT the use of a vexilar, these rods are pointless. A visual appearance of fish, on either a camera or a vexilar along with a buzz rod can be deadly.
I also need to mention the fact that these rods have excellent sensitivity and along with a instant anti-reverse reel, at $40 these combos are reasonably priced. I dont want to argue at all, but with all of these positive aspects - no matter if the "buzzing" works or not it still isnt a bad purchase.
I own five myself and have caught plenty of fish to make up my mind.
