First time out in west river

Recommended Posts

My brother and I got out for the first time this season. We've got about 5" on a couple of our stock dams. I got a new 2 man portable from my wife for Xmas and had to try it out. Everything went great. We really got into the fish. We only fished for a couple hours and caught and released about 15 perch, 15 crappie, and 5 bass. It was really great to finally get out on the ice after reading everyone's post for the last month. Is there anyone else out here on the west side fishing?

Waterbeater,

If I remember correctly (from some time ago), you are near White Owl or Enning?

Just wondering how your dam levels are with the drought?

I'm an old West River boy myself....I was around Murdo, Mission and farther south over Thanksgiving and things look bad. As bad or worse than in 1988.

Huskminn,
It's good to hear from you. How is your fishing going? Yes I live 2 miles west of White Owl, you've got a heck of a memory. Any dugouts without springs are bone dry and most of the dams with good springs are low. Hopefully we get some heavy wet stuff by spring or we'll be forced to sell down the herd.

Here's to hoping for some heavy wet stuff with big drifts in the draws. Selling down the herd is something we don't want to see.

Unfortunately, I haven't been ice fishing yet. Just a lot of talking about it. With any luck, that will change in the coming weeks.

Good luck!
