Has anybody been to Waubay fishing? Just wondering what's going on there and how much ice. I going fishing on Thursday and looking for a hot spot. ck

I am planning a trip to Waubay on the 21st, and would also like some info on the lake.Any info would help, ice thickness, bait to use. I'm hoping to go after walleyes and crappies. Thanks for any info you can give.

Waubay -- "Perch are fair to good in 16 to 18 feet of water, but you have to find 'em. There's about 6 inches of ice so 4-wheelers are going out there," said Bill Herold at the Fisherman's Village in Waubay. Some walleyes are being caught at Buster's Landing in the bay through 10-12 feet of water.

Fished Waubay on Friday the 13th. Ice is about 7"- 8" thick but watch out for the heaves. Walk out or use 4 wheelers only. Fished from 3 to 5:30 in the afternoon with decent success on perch from 10-12" {should have been there earlier}. Caught and released about 20 walleyes, almost all in the 15" range on jigging spoons tipped with a minnow head. Fished in twenty feet of water near Buckshot. Plan on staying after sunset for the walleyes.
