Mississippi Backwaters

Was curious if you can camp in the backwaters anywhere or is there a rule to that? This is my second year of the kayking world and love it!! I would like to go for a few days in the backwaters and rough it! It would probably be around the Winona area or Wabasha.. Thanks in advance..

I would think there is some info out there somewhere.  If not with the MN DNR, maybe the Army Corps of Engineers.  The Corps manages the navigation of the river.

 

I've seen and used campsites/picnic areas on the Rum and Upper Miss but nothing that far south.  The sites seem to be put in where there is "Designated Scenic Riverway" restrictions.  You might want to search the DNR and Corps sites for something that relates to that.

 

Otherwise, I think a lot of people just pull up on sand bars down that way.

Thanks for your reply! I will check with the DNR I just thought if I found an Island that maybe it would be public grounds with some rules of some kind. Thanks again...
