short shank
Anyone know of any connections with land owners in Iowa pheasant country? Seasons a long way off but just trying to prepare ahead of time. Usually go to S.Dakota but Iowa is closer to Wisconsin. Just me and another responsible friend looking for permission to hunt next season. I'm a terrible shot so you don't have to worry about me shooting all your roosters.
Jim Bob
Drove up from Colorado to Iowa the year before last. Didn't have any connections, just stopped and asked and only had 1 person say no and thats only because they didn't own the land I was asking about. Hunted 3 days on different property all 3 days. The folks up there were great!
short shank
This sounds like it is way different than in S.Dakota. We never even bothered to ask anyone for permission. Really commercialized. How did you do hunting by the way? Recommend any certain County?
Jim Bob
Was making a road trip to Wisc. at the time and planned on a few days of hunting on the way. Originally was going to go to S. Dakota but changed to Iowa because of exactly what you described.Hunted around the town of Spencer. It was just myself and the dog, got limits the first two days and 2 on the third day. Hunted hard all 3 days and covered a lot of ground. Birds probably not as plentiful as S. Dakota but they were there. Hardest part trying to figure who owned what and if they were home. Actually the fellow that told me no because it wasn't his property said it was ok to hunt his own land next to it! Didn't get anything but you never know. Like I said the folks up there were awesome.
