Moon Lake Refuge
Hey All, Ice house is getting ready to fish out of but every DMV I call has a different hoop to jump through. We bought and fabricated everything ourselves(no premade frame to start with) a couple DMV's told me I need to pay tax even though I have reciepts showing we already paid tax. Anyone have any recent encounters with homemade trailers? Details- 8x16, single axel, under 3k lbs right now but next year it will be over 3k. Trailer has brakes. Will not have a bathroom. Any advice would be appreciated. In the south metro if anyone knows any DMV's that are easier to deal with than others.
Hawg
Hello again MLR, I just took my receipts in, told them what I spent(they sure weren't going to add them all up), lied about the weight because I don't have brakes but under 3000 you don't need them) and walked out with a registration. I had zero hassle. If the frame is a hassle( I don't think it is) send me PM with your email and I'll send you a copy of my 8 x 16 from Miltona. Moon Lake Refuge
Thanks Hawg. I did just get off the phone with a lady at the hastings DMV and she said not to worry... bring my receipts and she would have me out the door inside of 15 minutes with the $50 registration fee. Hope she was right!
38bill
FYI: Make copies of your receipts for your files because they will only accept the originals and they keep them.
Hawg
They didn't keep mine.
38bill
Maybe changed the law? I registered my homebuilt wheel house in late 2013 and it stated right on the paperwork that they would keep the original receipts. I figured it was to keep everybody honest.
