We have a Jack on ours that is slow but reliable.  Found a bunch of forums that show you can remove the crank, and add a threaded rod with a nut on the end.  Then either make a conversion extension for your auger or just use a 18v drill to power the jacks up or down.  I hear left and right about broken cables which is why we chose not to go with a winch system on ours.
