Perch Jerker
After pheasant hunting in SD I can reliabaly make this statement. HUNT EASTMy father and I found birds 5mi west of Huron,SD and east of there. We hunted west of there the first day and didn't even see a bird, however, once we were in corn country (as opposed to grazeland) the birds were there too. We used to hunt west of Chamberlain,SD and would do great but due to the drought this year there aren't birds there. Every slough, pond, water hole was cracked mud dry. Also, we found birds in cattails & HEAVY cover bordering picked corn fields.Just an FYI if you're heading out.PJ
Johnny B
Perch Jerker is absolutely correct! Stay east of the Missouri River! We hunted in Todd County. The standing corn that we found was only three feet high. The drought literally decimated the bird population. It may take a few years to recover that far west.JB
Nels
I hope to be going out between Clark and Watertown this weekend. We did fairly well earlier in the season. Hopefully we can find them again.
