Jim Bob
Making a road trip to Wisc. next week and planning to hunt along the the way. Can't decide if to hunt SD or Iowa or both? How is it getting permission? Usually hunt NW Kansas and the farmers their are great about letting you hunt but the bird #'s are way down. Any info greatly appreciated! N Hardy
I was down in Iowa last weekend with some buddies and there is alot of state land to hunt. We saw alot of birds and my experience down there the farmers are pretty nice and most will let you hunt. We were only about 10-15 miles over the border. I would give that a try. Guest
I have been down in Iowa 3 times this year and have seen a decent number of birds every time. We have hunted state and private land, the farmers we have asked all let us hunt. I have also talked to alot of friends that have hunted SD this year and they said the birds are up there also. So you should have pretty good luck either state. Good luck and let us know how you did!Check this outhttp://www.geocities.com/wish_i_was_fishing2002[This message has been edited by B Sander (edited 11-22-2002).]
walleye wisher
We've hunted the mitchell SD area for 9 years now and have had little luck with private land. We've had one farmer give us permission in that time that hasn't asked for 1 to 2 hundred dollars per gun. Maybe not everyone has had that luck, but we have. ifishsd
I have been having excellent luck for pheasants in South Dakota this year. I have seen more birds already this year than the last 3 years together. Getting permission to hunt private land for pheasants is tough unless you know someone that has land. It is even tougher when they see your out of state license plates. Most people save the pheasants for relatives or friends that come home to hunt. Plenty of public land to hunt. This time of the year no one is hardly out hunting public land.Waterfowl hunting is different. Most landowners will let you hunt waterfowl. Jim Bob
Appreciate your input! Leaving from Colorado tomorrow and heading to NW corner of Iowa. I'll let you know how it was when I get back. Thanks again!
Jim Bob
Just got back into town. Hunted along Hwy 60 between LeMar Iowa and Minn. border. Great cover the whole way. Hunted hard for 3 days, just myself and our Lab, ended up with 8 birds. Hunted private property the whole way and had no problem getting permission. If the property wasn't theirs they would tell me who owned it and where they lived and then offer their own property to hunt. It was awesome!
