crossbow question

I don't know anything about crossbows but I just watched a video of a guy hunting deer and to load the bow he had to set the end of it on the ground and put his foot in it- is that how you have to load all crossbows?

The reason I'm asking is that I may want to try bowfishing with an Xbow but that of course wouldn't work while wading in the water, or it would also be a hassle even if you were shooting from a muddy shore if you had to set in the ground and put your foot in it, right?

thanks for the info guys- yeh, I knew about the 60 year old limit for crossbow bowfishing- I only have 5 years to go!
