SteeredStrike
I have a quick question for all you bass guys out there. What would make a better setup for soft plastics, baitcaster or spinning? I want to fish texas rigged worms and weighted/un weighted wacky worms. Thanks
bASS_BLASTER
Depends how you fish. Do you plan to fish in thick vegetation when throwing these plastic? Most of these guys here will have several rods for every situation. Here are some: I have a 7'1" Med X-fast action with a 3000 Series Spinning reel for weightless worms. If fish runs into thick vegetation, I'm screwed. Another rod: 7'3" MH, baitcast for 1/4 - 3/8oz texas rig & weighted worms. Not last but another 7' 9" Heavy for 1/2 - 1oz texas rigs. Sometimes I haul a large tree branch in with a bonus bass.If you're just looking for one. A better all around would be a 7'2" or longer, MH, Fast action baitcast is the ticket. M1dwestF1sh
^^^ what he said. But it'd be pretty hard to throw a small plastic unweighted on that setup.
RuddyDuck
For your standard 1/4 oz texas rigged plastics, I think a MH 6-6ft or 7ft BaitCast rod will cover most situations, other than really heavy cover. That setup should also work for weightless Texas rigged Senkos. Now I'm not sure how well it will work for weightless wacky rigged senkos. I think most use a spinning rig for that. I don't fish wacky's much, but when I do, I use a spinning rod.Does anyone use BC rods for Wacky rigs? If so, what kind of set up.
bASS_BLASTER
My experience. Longer rods with a softer tip will cast weightless worm & lighter presentation with ease. Short rods will do too but the combination of distance & backbone isn't there.Either way, let us know what you bought.
delmuts
"Does anyone use BC rods for Wacky rigs? If so, what kind of set up." Yep! My main set up is a Pflueger Trion with 2/10 braid and a flouro leader on a 7 ft. med. or MH rod, but can toss them with most of my BC. I don't pitch must but use a short roll cast. elusivecrappiecatcher
Check out Denali Rods Technique specific for the type of fishing you're looking for. J2 model is the entry class. VERY nice rod for the money. I like the wacky or shaky head spinning rods my self.
Popr29
I've been using a baitcast for years with my wacky worm fishing, I'll have a flick shake on a spinning rod and a Wacky Senko rigged on a 7'0" medium action Carrot Stix Wild Wild Black baitcast rod. I like the baitcast rod when I'm fishing open water because I feel like I have more power and spinning when skipping under docks and overhanging trees.
