humminbird helix 5 w/gps

knoppers

Question

just bought one of these for my pontoon, and was woundering how the unimap is, does it have lake contours, or is it just a basic background map?

also I see it can use both lakemaster and navionics chips, which is better? I went through the lakemaster lake list, and it seemed to have less HD maps, and I believe the navionics has the same as the webb app, so many more HD maps.

UniMap doesn't seem to have contours from the description on the HB HSOforum.

The latest Lakemaster Minnesota card has "over 2,200 lakes with more than 425 lake maps in High Definition." http://www.humminbird.com/Products/MINNESOTA-MSD/

If you can make any sense out of the Navionics card offerings, let me know. It looks like they have 5 different types of cards available, and I'm not interested enough to wade through it to find out how many Minnesota lakes they cover. Plus it looks like you need a Canada card for parts of northern Minnesota.

No contours on the uni-map. Whichever cards has the most HD lakes that you fish is probably best for you. The helix series only uses micro sd cards as well which means you will be buying brand new. The lakemaster card will work better with your humminbird. Highlighting depth areas and the depth colors option are great extra features to have and that puts the lakemaster over the navionics for me.
