You will not be disappointed. I have been using my 798 for several years now and wouldn't go without it. The GPS and lake map features are nice to have, especially all of your previous waypoints. I run mine with the black background and split screen graph to have a zoom of the bottom. With the graph I can still see what I might have missed when looking away before it scrolls off the screen.

I have the 597, I looked at the 300's sized one when i purchased mine but found myself liking the size and resolution of the big screen a lot more (more the resolution that the size) enough to justify getting the 597. I love it, use it summer and winter. but if you can only afford that size I wouldn't hesitate and know you will love it

I have the 385ci and I guess I'm not sure what the difference is off the top of my head between the 2. But yes, it is a good buy especially if you are on a budget or looking for something you can use on hard and soft water. The GPS is very nice, especially for marking stuff in the summer and knowing where it's at in the winter. I think for it's price you can buy a better winter model or a better summer model, but you cannot buy a better model for both types of fishing for the price.
