TURTLE lake in shoreview

I like to hit this lake in the early morning with topwaters...but the bass that hit topwater in here dont seem to get any bigger than 3 pounds...

is there a difference in the size of fish depending on the rig or lure i use? be it a big fat senko or a jumbo zara spook?

Not sure about your question for I have been catching the same smaller fish on Turtle all summer. I am would like to know where you are throwing top water? I fish deeper water in the submerged beds 7-12' on the other side of the markers out from the launch. I have thought about topwater on this lake but not sure where the best spot would be. Going there tomorrow morning and would like to try. Buzzers? Scumfrogs?

Went out again today and actually found some bigger fish. I fished the SW corner west of the Markers for a while, then the NW corner north of the float plane. I had 3 or 4 3-3.5 lb fish and one over 4. Probably 30+ fish total most around 2lbs. I really like the Berkly Gulp!! If you havent tried em yet. You should. I like the blue speckeled ones the best so far.

I usually fish the shallow parts of the lake using walkers, zara spooks etc. i usually come in with waders in the shallow area adjacent to the beach area...the bass seem to bite pretty well there with topwater in the morning before the crowds show up...i havent tried any plastics yet because i cant seem to find any good weedline from shore...but on calm days when the water is like glass topwater always seems to work and i havent tried gulp yet...been thinking about it though...good luck...

oh yeah most bass i catch from here are usually skinny with almost no girth...is this true for you too?

I actually have been doing pretty well in the last couple of weeks for size. Last night went out with my son and had about 20 fish. One was 19 inches and probably about 4 lbs. Second 4 pounder in the past 4 days out there. Most of the rest were between 2 and 3. There is a great weed flat which runs from the markers (which are straight out from the landing) to the oposite side of the lake. mostly from 6-10 ft deep here. I fish this area with my ultra light and a slip bobber/leech. I set my son up the same way. Makes for great action for a 4 year old. This is the same area I do well with plastics.
