Humminbird 688ci HD ICE combo

Fish42

Question

Hello, does anyone have one of these and what do you think about it? I am looking to buy and was previously looking at the Marcum lx9 until coming across this unit (Humminbird 688ci hd ice combo) since we do not currently use gps or lakemaster chips. Any info would help, thanks.

Here's why i recently bought a 788 vs the 688...

Bigger screen.

2 Card Slots

Can be networked with my 898

Also, i already owned a genz box and an ice duecer.

Plus, it's cheaper and you can go buy the store display models for a huge discount since the 788 is discontinued.

Otherwise, the 688 will work great for you if you just want an ice unit or as a stand alone unit for your boat.

I just picked up the 587hd Ci used for $100. It had a power cord only. I was only looking for a Ice GPS unit so it fit the bill. I wanted something I could put my summer waypoints in and use my lakemaster chip on ice. I transferred all my summer waypoints to the unit then use the lake master chip. I was going to mount it piggy back on my Ice 45 but it was too heavy for that.

I have used it a bit. The only draw back I have seen thus far is the mapping load speed. It is much slower than my 8 and 9 series birds that are on my boat. but for $100 I cant complain. I have since gotten deals on a Humminbird Ice bag ($30), Ice ducer ($60)and battery ($15). At a total cost of $205 I have an ice sonar and GPS with mapping. Cant knock it.
