Minnesota Applications Now Available.

People can apply for early season spring wild turkey hunting permits now through Friday, Jan. 9, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

The spring season, which runs from April 15 to May 28, is divided into eight time periods. Only people age 18 and older who want to hunt during the first three time periods (A-C) need to apply for a spring turkey permit. Permits for the remaining time periods (D-H) can be purchased over-the-counter.

Permits for the last five time periods and youth licenses for any time period are sold over-the-counter starting March 1. Surplus adult licenses from the first three time periods, if available, are sold starting around mid-March.

“There are a lot of options for hunters. You can apply for an early spring permit or buy one over-the-counter,” said Steve Merchant, DNR wildlife population and regulations manager. “For the second year, we’ve let youth hunt during all of the time periods, which makes it easier to introduce a young person to turkey hunting.”

I'm going to purchase the archery only tag again this year, mostly because the very best spot I have won't let guns on their property. Also, the option of being able to hunt for almost a whole month sounds pretty appealing to me. smile

We'll probably apply for the second season for my Dad again this year. Hoping to get him another bird at age 91. (he's been successful the last two years) How cool would that be?

Donbo Thats the only way I can hunt 140 acres of 1/2 ag land and the other 1/2 is 3/4 woods with the rest grasses. No firearms. You should have a fine archery hunt.Few hunt my area for turks but the non walked land/woods it is a haven! same with deer, archery only and as far as i know and have seen. I am the only person hunting the parcil.I'm in heavy farm land southEast of newLondon near Spicer.

i only wish the DNR would let archers buy a license at seasons beginning,Waiting for the over the counted could be lessened for archers. The birds are hard enough with a firearm!! good luck
