Smallmouth

Never fished for smallmouth before. Will be going to Upper Bottle Lake near Park Rapids in late July. This is a clear lake with a secchi disk reading of 19'.

Any suggestions of lures and colors and also live baits. What about fishing patterns to try.

I have never fished that lake, but I am assuming there are smallies in it. Work it at night for some potential topwater action; try straight moving lures (i.e. buzzbaits over Zara Spooks). If you fish during the day, try drop-shotting the depths. Try leeches and minnows. Good luck.

WOW, that's clear water. Fish topwater at dawn or dusk. During the day, stick with small plastics that get deep. Tubes in natural colors. Try spit-shotting or carolina rigs that get the bait away from the weight. Or, pretend your fishing for walleyes, and lindy-rig a leech. Wind will help you on water that clear.
