Drafty basement floor drain

Got a floor drain that doesn't appear to have a trap or clean out. Pretty nasty smelling draft coming from it. It's located under the stairs really close to a wall, making a tearout and replacement a bit tricky for a DIYer. Anybody know of anything that could be retrofitted to the current drain, somewhat like a checkvalve. The water softener discharges into this drain, so it does see regular use.

It sounds like a clean out to me as well. I say that because of its location.

Whether it be a clean out or not, the water softener drain hose can't go directly into any sewage drain. Because the softener is connected to potable water, an air gap is required.

So if that is a clean out it should be sealed with a cap and not a place to discharge the water softener.

The discharge hose can go to the laundry tub. Fasten up high so it could never pull water out of the tub. There are other ways to drain the water softener to the drain as well but that would be the easiest.
