What color is your Yak? Why?

Recommended Posts

Seems like a silly question to some of you probably. With the obvious answer being "It's [X Color] because I like it!"

But with an impending purchase, if I get a choice, I'm on the fence about whether to choose something in a natural color like Sand, Olive Green, CAMO!, or if I should get something brighter. I love the camo look, but honestly I don't plan on doing any hunting our of it. I'm wondering about visibility on the lake.

If I'm out in the middle of the lake on a windy day in a brown or camo colored Yak, I feel like I may be more prone to getting run over by some boater going full out with both throttle and cooler depletion if you know what I mean! But if I'm paddling away in a 12 foot safety orange road hazard, I would think I'd be a LOT more visible.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Ever had a problem with not being seen? Ever been seen and wished you hadn't?

My kayak is sand colored. I bought that color because it was the only option! I don't worry too much about getting ran over, then again if I'm fishing in my kayak it's usually on a smaller lake without much traffic. I still wear brightly colored shirts to improve visibility.
