Six Rare Fish In Iowa

Recommended Posts

An interesting article from the IDNR on rare/unusual fish in Iowa: http://www.iowadnr.gov/fishing/ctl/detail/mid/2780/itemid/2186

For the record, I've caught two of those species in Iowa: the American eel and the mooneye. Maybe that's why I'm surprised to hear them described as "rare" in Iowa.

Because I grew up in SE Minnesota, I am familiar with the slimy sculpin.

I have heard of the banded killifish, but don't know anything about them.

As for the pirate perch and trout-perch, who knew?
