Carp Trifecta in 1 day: Bow, Speargun & Hook

I actually didn't start the day to set out and do it, but I finally accomplished what I tried to do in 1 day last summer but failed; get carp with my bow, speargun and hook and line all in 1 day! (Tuesday, Aug. 12)

I even managed to squeeze in some work time in the a.m. and kid watching the afternoon.

Started by snorkeling in Tonka and bagging 2 with my speargun in about 45 mins. Then it was off the Minnehaha for bowfishing where I got 4 more, and then I set up a simple canned corn rig on my medium rod and brought 2 more to shore (released for more fun later!)

I can't believe I didn't get any pics of the day (I was all alone!) but I do have something really cool to share with you guys; my pal who I met through a SCUBA forum last year videoed our speargun hunt this past Sunday and he got me nailing 2 carp (seen at around the :40 mark and then another in the last 15 seconds). He edited out the parts of me bringing them in as it can be a bit gruesome for some of the YouTube crowd, but I wish you guys could have a had a closer look at my quarry. And how about those walleyes! Just like bowfishing, no blasting the gamefish.

The video makes shooting the carp seem kinda easy since it's a bit deceiving how close we can get to the fish; my pal has a Go-Pro attached to a long pole and it doesn't spook the fish at all. I've gotten pretty good at keeping my movements to a minimum and just holding my breath and waiting for them to wander in range. Go ahead and comment on my goofy 1990 disco spring wetsuit if you want- I'm just lucky I still fit in it! Gotta step up soon to the new freshwater camo suits they have now.

The one thing that really surprised me are the monster muskies that hang out under docked boats in the shallows in the middle of the summer. They're never afraid of me and sometimes there are a couple of them. They are a bit imposing with the magnification effect underwater!

Unfortunately Popo wasn't with me with the Go-Pro when I saw them. Our next goal (might have to wait till next summer) is to take a rod and reel underwater rigged up with a live chub/sucker and try to catch one of those big walleyes and capture it on film.

We tried for the first time a couple weeks ago and had a nice walleye interested but it never bit. Had a little bass on for awhile though. I was surprised how well I could handle the pole and the location of the bait while bobbing around on the surface.
