maintenance on piston for trim tilt on merc 90

Does anyone have any general maintenance recommendations for the tilt/trim piston. mine seems to be acting up and hesitates occasionally when I need the merc 90 to be up. before I have it replaced, I was thinking maybe a simple lube or oil change could get me a few more years. looking for some advice.
