Marine radio antennae

I just got a new Cobra Marine VHF radio to replace my old one that fritzed out. I currently have a 4' or 5' antennae and want to upgrade to an 8' but I really do not know anything about which one to get. I see some at your big box outdoor stores ranging from $50 - $150. Someone also told me something about setting the frequency or something of the antennae to match the radio??? I did not understand what he was saying and I don't see anything about that on the internet. I would use the radio only sporadically when I hit LOW a couple times a year so I would be leaning towards the $50 variety. Any words of wisdom for me (relating to the radio and antennae that is). Thanks.

Thanks - I will look at that one. I did some more web searching and found out if you buy a marine VHF it will be "synched" to the radio.

As long as you get a marine VHF antenna you'll be fine.

There is tech gargon with the impedance of the unit matching the antenna for maximum transmitter power output.

The manufactures have you covered
