drop shot rod

Amy recommendations for a drop shot combo? Rod, reel, line all around $200 or cheaper. I know that's not a lot of money to work with but I would just like a cheaper combo that I can always just leave a drop shot on. Fishing tournaments its a lot of wasted time putting on a whole rig.

I'd go with a 7'2'' Medium/Extra Fast Action. I currently use a 6'9'' ML/F and in my opinion it doesn't have enough backbone.

Shimano clarus 7'2" M XF Drop Shot rod with a Shimano sedona 2500 reel. I really like it and less than $150! For line I like seagur 6lb fluoro.

Is an extra fast or fast action my best bet? I always thought you wanted more of a moderate action but I could be way wrong? Also you think a 2500 isn't too big and heavy? I really like light weight set ups. Thanks for the responses!

I would check out the Cabelas Tournament ZX Dropshot rod. They are on sale right now for $69 and I promise they will be as nice as anything twice that price. Match it with your favorite medium size reel that's in your budget and your good to go. There are even a few combo's on their HSOforum.

The faster the better BUT it should still be a soft tip. Mine has unreal tip flex and a great backbone. Smaller reel works, its all preference.

Smaller reels are not a good choice if fluorocarbon line is going to be used (which is my line of choice for drop shotting). If fluorocarbon is used, I would use a 2500 size spinning reel or even larger. It also helps to use a quality line like Seaguar Ivzx.

I was either thinking ivzx or sniper in a 6-8 pound test flouro. All I ever use is shimano spin reels so I'm fimilier with their sizes but I was think maybe going pflueger. I've heard good things about their president reel. Anybody have a size recommendation?
