Black Bear
I believe I have rust build up under my ABS sensor/s on my 2004 Silverado. Question? In order to "pull" the sensor and clean this up will I need to remove the brake caliper and rotor? or? Thank you for your response.
Macgyver55
Yes you will! Once you can access it, remove the sensor retaining bolt and gently turn to loosen and pull the sensor out. Be careful though it is plastic and you can break them easily. Do not pry on it! Once you have it removed, I usually put a small piece of paper towel in the hole to keep dirt from getting in there while cleaning the mating surface. Use sandpaper or a very fine file to make sure the mating surface is clean to bare metal. Don't forget to remove the paper towel once you are done and put then put a small amount of grease on the mating surface before reinstalling the sensor. MNice
If your ABS light is on, it could be an indication the hub assembly is going bad also, not just the sensor. They are not to bad to change out..
Jeremy airjer W
I would also check the play in the wheel bearing before removing the tire. If it's loose there is no need to clean the rust under the sensor. The new wheel bearing will be rust free.
