Schubie
I need some ideas on my colleges kids 04 jeep liberty with 88k 4 wheel drive. The car sporadically acts like it is in a very low gear and will not shift. The car is an automatic but manually needs to have the gear shift pulled to get to 4 wheel drive. There are no codes or warnings. Last time into the shop (2weeks ago) they thought the tranny filter was clogged so we did a power flush, new filter and pan. It is back in the shop today. Any ideas? Anything to ask or be on the look out for? When I originally took it in I talked to a few shops ans they said with out codes I was in trouble. That diagnostic stuff can be a bugger. Thanks Schubie
overdalimit
That tranny is electronically controlled. most likely needs to have a solenoid replaced or something like that. My buddy is a tranny guy and says that he is often having tio replace "lazy" solenoids and then "reflash" the control unit.

Schubie
Jeep service just called. They told me they don't know what is wrong. I asked about solenoid and they told me with out a code they were unable to diagnose. I will pick it up soon. Any ideas on a next move? overdalimit
I just talk to my friend who does the tranny work and he suggested the speed sensor...$28 part and can be changed without removing the transmission. said it needs to be acting up for it to show up on a scan tool. said it is pretty common. Jeremy airjer W
Usually they will trigger a code for incorrect gear ratio and the transmission will go into limp more (start and stay in second gear)
Schubie
Thanks guys. It is not throwing a code. Frustrating. But will take it back when it does it again.
