Transition to points?

Recommended Posts

Walleyes will relate to the points most of the year sliding deep and shallow at various times throughout the day. Every point is not created equal as far as fish holding potential. Some things that may keep fish around a point is quick access to deep water, irregularities in both bottom content and along the sides and tip. This time of year it will come down to available forage. If the point is near a shallow rock and gravel area or has that composition it is a high percentage spot to try as most likely fish have used it to spawn. Post spawn the fish will start to scatter somewhat but will relate to the tip and deeper edges making feeding forays towards the shallow lip during lowlight periods to feed on available forage. If there is an emerging weedline, that will gather both baitfish and hungry predators like walleyes. As water temps warm into the 60 and 70 degree range look to fish the deeper tip and sides or along any of the weedline edges you may find on the point. The transition from thesides and tip into deeper water will often hold a change in bottom content from sand and gravel to muck or clay where it meets the basin which is a high percentage spot to work live bait rigs and jig and minnows for neutral and negative fish.
