Repairing rod eyes

Recommended Posts

I have a fenwick hmx and 2 of the plastic rings inside the line guides popped out, I emailed fenwick but after reading about horror stories with their customer service I have a feeling I'm going to have to fix it on my own, do they make just the plastic ring liner I can pop back in?

Dooley,

I don't believe they make just the plastic rings. I could be wrong, I'm sure others will chime in if I am. I think you'll have to buy two new guides and have them replaced. I'm sure someone on here would be willing to help if they are located close enough.

That's what I thought but figured I'd ask since the guides aren't bent and wouldn't have to be cut out if I could just replace the plastic piece

Most likely some sort of "ceramic guides" and the ceramic piece doesn't just pop in.

The tip top would be easy as those are basically hot glued in place. The other guide will need to have the guide removed and a new one wrapped in place.

It looks like that is wrapped with gold metallic of some sort, so the color may not be a super hard match or look crappy it is a little bit off.

I found a shop in Becker that does repairs, if it was just the tip I've got a bunch of replacements incase I break a tip out fishing, I think Thorne brothers does rod repairs too.

Paul with venture custom rods is helping me out, he charges $10 an eye and if I drop it off Sunday he will drop it back off in St. Cloud Monday, hard to beat service like that.
