1989 Yamaha 90HP Carb Issue?

Recommended Posts

The bowl has gas in it. When you tilt the motor that gas will run out.

If you have a remote gas tank pressure can build up and continue to push gas to the crab.

When tilted the float isn't in position to meter the fuel via the inlet valve(needle and seat) and will continue to let gas in and therefore drip.

When in transit and when off the water with outboard tilted up remove the gasoline.

When in down position, squeeze the primer bulb. Once the the bowl has reached its proper level the bulb will be firm and you can't psuh any more fuel to the carb. This would be a proper working inlet valve. If you can continue to push fuel that gas will run out the throat of the carb or run into the crankcase, it just depends on the what angle the outboard is sitting.

In that case either the float level is off or the inlet valve is damaged or derbies in it and not allowing full closure.
