Single Foot Wire Fly Guide for Spinning Rod

Recommended Posts

I am just about to build a panfish rod for myself and want to keep it as light as possible. I always use the single foot wire fly guides on my ice rods in a # 6. I was thinking about using these same guides for running guides or even a size 3 or 4 on this spinning rod, and using the flexilite guides for stripping and transition guides. Has anyone ever tried this? My only concern is that it won't cast well at all. I will only be using mono or fluorocarbon. I won't be using this as a bobber rod, so I don't have to worry about knots passing through the guides.

I'm going to make this rod a split grip, but I don't want to have a foregrip or rear grip on it. I just want the butt piece and the reel seat. Therefore, I need a transition from reel seat to rod blank. I've seen how some of you have built rods like this and have a "ramp" as a transition. Do you build this up with epoxy and then wrap thread over it? Or is there a piece that you can buy, and then wrap over it?
