Using A Drift Sock In Current To Control Boat Swing?

Hey guys, has anyone done this? I'm talking about anchoring the boat with the normal one or two anchors, and then deploying a sock off the stern. My thinking is that if you're having trouble keeping the boat stern from swinging back and forth in the current/wind, the constant pull of current on the drift sock will help mitigate that. Just wondering if anyone's tried this before?

Yes it would help but your anchors have to have a good grip as it increases the load they are holding when the sock catches current. I have a smaller anchor just to peg the rear of the boat if needed instead of the sock.

Thanks for the reply! I have a secondary anchor as well, but it often seems not to catch very well light fluke style anchor off the front, 30lb river anchor in the rear is my current setup.

if there is enough current to pull the boat tight on the anchor there is really no need for a rear anchor cause the boat will just move back and forth on the anchor rope anyways, unless you can get a really good angle on the rear rope, but to answer your question yes i will use a drift sock for the reason you asked, they also come in real handy when the wind is blowing up current.
