Need tips on Humminbird 597 ci HD

Just got a hummingbird 597 ci HD for ice fishing. When I used it for the first time in deep water it was great. Shallow water was a problem. Not sure how and what mode to get it in to read in shallow water. My marks were huge and could not get the lines thin. Any tips would help for ice fishing with this unit.

change backlight screen to black, much easier to read graph as opposed to white background

if you are reading deep just find but shallow is a mess, check switchfire mode, may have to turn off in shallower waters.

I use graph mode only even on ice, never flasher mode

rt (real time sonar) window on far right of screen is nice to have on split screen in graph mode.

play a lot with the screen display modes, you will figure out which you like best with your choice of info on it.

when fishing, play with your sonar strength, I always have mine just barely to see the jig fall, then it is easer to decipher size/type of fish on a stronger red signal on graph. I know have been able to "read" perch & northerns, gils n crappies are still guesses

I had a similar issue when I first played with my 597. Adjust your sensitivity down and it should take care of it.
