Smallies from shore below 494 bridge

Hey folks,
When I drive over the 494 bridge between IGH and Cottage Grove I've always wondered if smallies could be caught from shore just south of the bridge? There seems to be alot of rock and rubble along the bank which would seem like a good area for smallies to hold. Has anyone ever fished that area from shore or even in a boat for smallies? Is it worth going down there with a few cranks and a handful jigs to try it out or is it a waste of time? I've never fished the river before and intend to start and thought maybe a little shore fishing would be a good way to start. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.
