Nils with Clam Plate

Recommended Posts

Been thinking about replacing my 6"lazer auger, don't like how it catches when breaking thru the ice and i would like to try a Nils auger to use on my Clam plate.

Anyone tried modifying one to work, I do have laths/mills to do this, Is it worth all the work or should i just buy a different auger that will fit right on with ease.

Anyone that went this rout could you post pictures and tell me how you did this

I had the same dilemma and decided to go with the Nils Cordless Convertible instead. It has a five sided stud built in that just fits directly into my 1/2" chuck cordless 18V drill. It easily cuts through a foot of ice in less than 5 seconds with no downward pressure other than the weight of the auger and drill. And if the drill ever quits on you, you still have the fastest, easiest cutting hand drill ever made. The drawback right now is that the only 8" augers available are in the hands of the dealers, and a lot of them are sold out as well. Nils USA is out and will not be getting any more this season. I bought a 6" from Cabela's using club card points and got it for just over $10. grin

PS: I graduated from Grand Rapids South High School in 1960.

The clam 6" auger bit that goes with the plate is actually really nice. I would recommend it. I bought the hand auger separate from the plate during the early season. Then just recently bought the plate to use together.

Nils USA is out of 8" for this season and will not have anymore available before this season ends. There are a few left in dealer inventories' but when they are gone, they will not be replaced this season. I have a 6" that will drill through 15" of ice in about 10 seconds. I got mine from Cabela's. They do not have any 8" in stock.
