Battery life Lowrance 522

+1 on keeping the screen dim and using a 9 Ah battery. I have the first generation 522 and have found it difficult to get a full day out of one battery. I may be running it on medium light though.

Also, I don't know if the later generations of 522s had the ability to actually turn off the GPS, but the mine will only hide the features. The GPS is still on - you can't turn it off. So in the case of being in a permy where it might lose and re-gain signal, it'll work harder to search for that signal. In the open or a portable, it locks on and usually stays locked on.

To turn the satellites off on mine-hit pages go to status hit enter, then press menu and scroll down to use indoors and hit enter. This turns off the gps for use indoors so its not searching for satellites while still maintaining your sonar/flasher abilitiy.Just make sure if this does work for you to either turn it on again if you need it for navigation, also if you turn the unit off then on again it will turn the satellites back on so keep that in mind.
