BigDogRob
OK am I doing something wrong that the Jiffy Propane keeps freezing up when drilling holes? The centering blades on the bottom had a perfect frozen ice around them. Drilled with the house up, but it didn't think it was super cold! First 4 holes in house 1 worked great...set it outside, walked to the other house, drilled 3 holes just fine, and then the last 3 were drill-chisel almost every foot or so. I did start pulling up on the last hole to clean it out more often, but not sure it helped imensely!
NEANGLER
I have heard from several people that they have had issue when it is really cold, propane has issues flowing at low temps so maybe keep the 1lbers in your truck before using if it's really cold out. If you have a permanent house it should stay warm enough to not have a problem. Really like the idea of the people instead of gas but I think some bugs need to be worked out. kfk
Read the post closer guys. Iced up blades are common. I think there are other posts talking about iced up blades if you do a search, but the best solution I've heard is a small rubber mallet to knock the ice off. kerryd15
watch where you set it between holes. don't set the drill tip in soft snow or shavings. Basically it freezes a snowcone on the center tip or ice chips on the bottom side of the blade so the blade doesn't get a bite into the ice. any auger will have this issue. SM1
What Kerry said. A guy just needs to be aware of not sticking the tip back in the snow on cold days. Its the ice/snow build up on the back side of the main cutting blade that doesn't allow it to cut. I give the auger a extra spin when I pull it out of the hole to fully clean it off. Then either put the snap cover back on or just set it on the ice sideways keeping the tip clean. I am otherwise very happy with my pro4. Clean, convenient, always starts in 1-2 pulls even when it's cold, runs smooth with no lack of power.
BigDogRob
Thanks guy's. The motor runs great with the propane working well. Yes, just problems with the blades part. I was drilling inside the house with it up. I think we noticed by lifting to clean the hole more often it worked better, but wouldn't think it should matter? Did clean carefully with a screwdriver and it worked better, but still froze a couple times. Maybe, the reverse spin from a SM is throwing me off...lol
