Beaver Dam tip ups

My neighbor gave me a bunch of tip ups, and in the pile are some beaver dams! I assume they havn't been used in over 5 years! was wondering if they need some attention to prevent freeze ups and stiffness! They spin great but havn't put them in the water yet, and I see you can't take em apart to grease em! What do you guys do? I've never used beaver dam but hear they are the best around!!

You can take them apart and re-lube if needed. You-tube 'beaver dam reconditioning'. To find out if you even need too just throw them outside in these cold temps overnight and see if they still spin free or if they need a clean and lube. Even if they seem to spin ok- you might want to go a step further before you put on line and all that and water test them. Throw the spool/shaft in a bucket of water simulating it being set up in water for a while then pull them out and put them outside over night. This way it will let you know if water is seeping in from the spool end and freezing in the shaft.
