GFCI breaker out?

This has me a little puzzled , this morning our GFCI outlets in our house were not working so I go out to the breaker box in the garage and it's flipped. I try to flip it on and it shuts off right away. Now I'm wondering if our -22 below wicked cold last night had something to do with it. I google it and find a few references to the same thing. Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience or knows something about it? It seems like too much of a coincidence to me.

If that breaker also has outdoor outlets on them it may just be that one of them frosted up or got moisture in the outlet causing the breaker to trip. Also if you have cars plugged into the outlets that could cause the problem. Look at the outside outlets first to see if that may be the issue. I am an electrician and we find this to be very common in very cold or wet weather. Just take the cover off and look inside it should be evident if there is frost and if the wiring is burned up you should be able to smell it as it is a very distance odor.

Unplug everything and see if it will reset. If it does, start to plug the stuff back in and see what the culprit is. If it doesn't reset, then the breaker is probably bad.

May I ask what receptacles this is running? Is it a GFCI or an AFCI?

Thanks for your input guys! The GFCI is OK now! There was a garage outlet connected to the same breaker and I noticed a string of Christmas lights was out and plugged into that outlet. As soon as I unplugged the lights the breaker stayed on when I flipped it back.
