Looking to go on a muley/whitetail hunt next fall on a reservation, preferably in SD. Does anybody have any experience hunting on the res? Do's, dont's, recommendations, etc?? I have done a decent amount of spot and stalk on speed goats out there but never on a res. Any help would be great! Thanks

I went out the the standing rock reservation back in 2010. It was during the rifle season but i will try and give you any info I can. Standing Rock is a first come first serve license. You have to go to there HSOforum and wait for them to go on sale. It should be shortly. If it is land that is owned by the reservation you do not have to ask for permission. However if somebody is out there maybe tending fences or something it encouraged to ask and at least speak to them.

There are some private ranches out there. We got caught driving on a road that was going through a ranch. Now this road showed up on a Garmin GPS and also on my atlas. It was even named like 254th street. However it was made pretty clear that we were not welcome. We were not hunting but just driving to another location. We just left and considered it lesson learned.

Overall we had a good hunt even though it was only a couple of days. Let me know if you need any more information. I will try and answer any way I can.
