Welomcing the New year on Ice

Recommended Posts

Yes that's right! Hit the solid surface on Jan 1st before light.

Hit Bang's lake in the snow and fished in 11-13fow out in front of Lindy's landing. Fishing was not hot and heavy, but we were able to pull some nice pumpkin seeds through the hole. The ice was a solid 8" and the Clam auger chewed through it like it was butter.

Fun was had and some decent fishing was also a good thing.

Fish were hitting a variety of baits, but I was getting my fish on a Clam #12 Dingle drop with a waxie as well as a Clam #16 white glow Drop jig tipped with a red Clam/Maki plastic.

You could see the fish come in low on the Vexilar and you would raise your bait a foot or two off the bottom and the aggressive fish would follow and wack it. Some times they actually were preferring it dead sticked after some intense jigging action.

We called it when the snow picked up harder and the wind started to really howl. The front was moving in and the fish really shut down.

Here is a shot of one of the seeds.

It was a nice day on the ice. The snow was coming down hard at times, but we made the best of it. The bite really shut off when the wind picked up as the front made its way over us.
