Bureaucrat
I took my GPS out for the first time this weekend since April 2013. I turned it on, and the lake depths no longer show. It just shows the water in blue, and no depth lines. What's the deal? What do I have to do to fix it? Or is this thing ready for the scrap heap? MN Mike
Do you know if your map is selected to be active so it shows data? The base map built into the device by default will show approx lake border but no depth. If that GPS sat for a long time, it might have reverted to defaults and turned off your lake data you purchased for it.Do you know what detail level you are set to? Different detail levels will show lake depth at different zoom levels. What lake mapping product do you have for it? is it downloaded, DVD or a MicroSD card? If it's a MicroSD card, you might want to double check to make sure it's seated correctly.Mike
Bureaucrat
Good thoughts to start. I bought it in April, used it once, and the contours showed. I never did any downloads to update my maps. But I will play with it a little and see what comes of it. Many thanks for the tips.
Bureaucrat
Got it! The chip wasn't set properly. It must have gotten loose when I was tossing it around. Now, I realized I don't have the USB cable for it anymore. Thankfully, i found a data cable on amazon for $10. Ordered it up. I need to update my maps. I was ready to fling the darn thing out the window. Thanks again for the help.

Gotta like those easy fixes, Garmins are dang reliable. That usb cable is pretty standard on those, so they are easy to find.Just for good measure, I pull any data card when I do updates to the unit.Mike
