kerryd15
Those of you that have used the 798 with the ice ducer- How do you like it on the ice? Interference issues? able ot see small jigs?
Gekhang
I have one rigged up for ice and I really like the traditional sonar view vs the flasher view. It also picks up alot of debris normally not seen on a traditional flasher. I have had no troubles seeing 5mm tungsten jig heads even when fishing st croix in 35+ fow. Not very many interference issues I couldn't deal with.
MN Mike
If I had to do it again, I would have put that money towards another flasher, its OK but I wouldn't count on it to be my primary flasher for ice fishing. My Marcum sets up faster, knocks out any interference and has WAY better target speration. Interference is a pain fishing next to other flashers with the 798. Hardwater_Fan
I have a 788 that I started using last year along with my ICE45. This year I sold the ICE45 and am using the 788 exclusively. I absolutely love it. I also really prefer the traditional sonar view over the flasher view. It gives a "history" in case you happen to turn your head for a bit, you can see if you missed anything. It works great to see how fish react to your jigging so you can fine tune your presentation. I have not had any trouble seeing tiny tungsten jigs either. You can buy the portable pack (around $90) and the ice ducer (around $60) and have yourself a great portable GPS/flasher/sonar combo. If you're careful with them, you will get full use out of them year round for many years. A lot of guys end up upgrading electronics after a few years anyway. Might as well use them. There's all kinds of ways you can mount them to your ATV or sled too if you want to use the GPS functions of the unit. RAM makes several good mounts. Or get creative and make your own. There are a lot of good pics of things that guys have done on this site. Another advantage is that you can mark spots in your boat that produce during the summer and go back to them on the ice. All from the one unit. For me, the 788 has been awesome!
