Wheel house tools

Ive read in another forum about guys bringing cable repair tools along in their wheel house in case a cable breaks while they are cranking their house up or down. My question is what exactly are the tools and hardware I would need to splice the cable if it would happen to break?

Guys I know way up north have repaired them sucessfully. Depending on how big of cable you have will make a small difference, but they all carry a hot saw and a thermite kit.

Pardon my ignorance, what is a hot saw and thermite kit?

We are building a house and I was thinking we should keep a small tool case with some probable things we could need. An extra cable was one of them.

All you should need is a length of cable the same as you have on there now, a cable clamp and wrenches for it. That is all I carry to replace mine.

A couple Crosby clamps and crescent wrench will get it done. If the cable snaps just pull the bad part out, re-clamp, and winch it down.

Or, you can use your truck jack. Jack up the house and drop the spring into place.

Lambjm, does that set up come with a "kick me in the back of the head" sticker or do you have to buy that separately and apply to your own back?
