Perm propane tank box suggestion

Recommended Posts

We are building a perm wheel house and have a 4' V nose.

The frame came with 2 3x2 tube steel arms that extend out from the frame, to hold the propane tanks. (standard set up). I have extra diamond plate and would like to build a box for the propane tanks to be in. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to do this?

We have to send it out on Wednesday for paint, so i need to fab this tonight.

The house is done on the outside, so should i just frame a box with 2x2's and then attach that to the house and plate it?

Do i leave the bottom open anywhere?, does it need to be vented? The top will have a lock of some sort on it, with a lid. Unless a different design is better. No time today at work to think this out and hoping someone can give me an idea on how they would do it, so i can build it after work.

Thank you.

Northand Auto Center has one on their HSOforum forsale that has a diamond plate box like you are describing if you want to search for it.

It appears to have a hinged door on the front to access the tanks.

Google search this 2014 Yetti Fish House 8X16 Excursion

While you are at it, maybe you could line the box with pink foam to insulate it. Keep those tanks a little warmer on the frigid days.

I was thinking that too Bart. Rather than seal all 4 edges around the door i would just leave the bottom unsealed so there would ge a 1/4 gap across the 26 inches of the door. I would think 7.5 square inches of space is more than enough to keep in somewhat vented. However if its sitting on the ice for a long time that door may get snowed in on the bottom. maybe ill just throw a small vent on the side or cut a couple slits on each side. Kind of makes the indea to insulate the tanks a bit useless though.

The regulator is inside the same box as the tanks.

here is a picture of what we did for the frame, and now we are diamond plating it, with a lift lid on the top.

So a few holes in the bottom should be fine for venting it, as the propane settles to the bottom?

Based on the suggestion that the regulator needs to be vented, not the tanks, i would say NO. the regulator is the part that could/will/can let propane escape. So you would not want that inside the house, unless in mistaken totally mis-understanding what the other poster suggested.
