Question

Has anyone used this converter/charger? I've found a lot of positive reviews on amazon and other places for it. Mostly seems like it's been used in RV's. Fish house supply has it for $169, but I've found it for cheaper other places. What else are you using for your 12v charging and maintenance?

I use an older MinnKota 3 x 10A charger on my boat.

My ice house is just a Otter Lodge portable so I don't have a big battery to charge there. Use just self-contained lights or a few LEDs that run off a small battery like for the Vex. I charge those with a small (1A max) multi stage battery charger I bought from some electronics clearance house for $5 or something like that.

I've purchased a couple inverters from DonRowe dot com. If you go to the HSOforum, you will find many converters/chargers under the "Chargers" link at the top of the page. Some of the converter/chargers have smart charging, some don't. You have to read the details.

I use a 40 amp Intellipower converter powered by a 1000w gen to charge two sets of batteries. Works quite well. Note that I believe Intellipower changed their converters to automatically change voltage. My converter is a bit older and has a separate control so I can change the voltage (13.1 to 13.6 to 14.1). A very important feature for me for I can then charge both banks of batts in 3-4 hours and be good to go on power for the next 20 hours.
