Vexilar pro view ducer, who can help

I'm still not exactly sure how these things work. I've read a bunch and watched all of Mr Zenanko's videos. From what I watched and read, you turn your gain up to widen your cone. I just don't understand how turning your gain up to a 30 degree angle cone doesn't jack up your sensitivity as well?? Is this something you sacrifice with a wider cone or what am I missing? I've also heard that turning the gain up does widen the detection area, but isn't widening your cone at the bottom essentially. Any clarification is appreciated since the more I dig the less I resolve.

I just got one this year and I'm not really sure how I feel vs the tri beam I had last year.

I haven't really gotten into the fish yet this year so widening the cone out hasn't helped much. I generally leave it narrow and maybe turn up a bit if I see a blip to see if I have a fish or vegetation

I'm pretty sure I'm not as good with this transducer as I was with my tri beam yet

I think this link does the best job of explaining a Tri-beam, normal beam, and a pro view.

Transducer types explained

I stayed with the Tri beam due to the pro view being a unknown area of coverage.

If I understand it right, you have to turn the gain up to get a wider beam with the proview, which makes your marks blobbier.
